Grading
Students are graded on the following items in both Social Studies and Language Arts: Assessments (tests/quizzes) ~ 30% Classwork ~ 30% Projects ~ 30% Homework ~ 10% |
Late Work
Students are expected to complete assignments on time. Assignments are due at the beginning of the class period the day after they have been assigned unless otherwise noted in students' agenda book/on team website. Assignments will lose 10 points for each day they are late until they have been turned in. Anything past five days will only get 50% credit; any credit is always better than no credit. Students should check power school regularly to see how they are doing and if they have any missing assignments that need to be turned in. |
Homework
Homework is given on a regular basis, Monday through Friday. To see what your student has for homework on any given night, check his agenda book or the Team Edison webpage. All assignments and any upcoming tests or quizzes will be written in the agenda book daily. When students do not turn in a homework assignment, we will put a sticker in their agenda book to inform you. Please send in a note with your child if homework was not completed due to an unexpected emergency.
At home, help set up a consistent, organized space for homework to be completed.
· Help your child establish either a consistent schedule for completing homework or help him/her create a schedule at the beginning of each week that reflects that particular week’s activities.
· Encourage, motivate, and prompt your child, but do not sit with him/her and do the homework with him/her. The purpose of homework is for your child to practice and use what he/she has learned. Please contact the teacher if your child consistently is unable to do the work.
· If your child is practicing a skill, ask him/her what is easy, or difficult about it. If your child is doing a project, ask him/her what knowledge he/she is applying. Please contact the teacher if your child consistently is unable to talk about the knowledge he/she is practicing or using.
· Although there might be exceptions, the minutes your child spends on homework should be approximately 10 times the grade level (6th grader, 60 minutes).
